When Are Courses Considered Completed?
The Course author, in conjunction with the features offered by the Course authoring tool, determines when a Course is considered to be “completed”. For example, an author can choose to set the Course to completed if the User (Course taker) answers all questions in an exam correctly.
- WYSIWYG Courses - Completion of a WYSIWYG Course is depends on whether there is a LearnCenter post-Assessment. If there is no required LearnCenter post-Assessment, and the User visits the last page of the Course, the Course is considered completed. If there is a required post Assessment, the Course is considered complete if Users visit the last page of the Course and they pass the LearnCenter post-Assessment.
- SCORM 1.2/AICC API Courses - These Course types are considered complete when the lesson_status is set to completed, passed or failed. In addition, a SCORM 1.2 Course goes down to complete if the lesson_status is set to “not attempted” and the SCO finishes its session with the LMS’ SCORM API adapter by calling LMSFinish.
- SCORM 2004 Courses - These Course types are considered complete when the completion_status is set to completed. In addition, a SCORM 2004 Course goes down to complete when the User initiates a navigation request (exit, back, next, choosing another Course from the class’ table of contents) if the completion_status is “unknown” and the “Completion Set by Content” setting is “False”. The setting “Completion Set By Content” is provided in the SCORM package’s IMSManifest.xml file.
- AICC HACP Courses - Setting a Course to “completed” depends on the setting for the Failed behavior (fail lesson_status). You can choose to keep a Course incomplete or change it to completed, but the Course may show a failed status in reports. The failed behavior setting offered by the LearnCenter determines how the Course’s lesson_status of “failed” is handled, set the Course to completed or incomplete. A lesson_status of “passed” or “completed” will always mark the Course as completed.
