Getting Started with WBT for LearnCenter

LearnCenter enables you to distribute several formats of Web-based training (WBT) created in a variety of third party authoring tools. Content includes WBT, AICC Courses, SCORM Classes and Courses.

There are several steps involved in implementing WBT in your LearnCenter:

1. Create WBT - You, someone in your organization, or someone outside your organization creates the WBT content in an authoring tool.
2. FTP WBT content files to your FTP Site - Using FTP software, you upload the content files to the FTP site for your LearnCenter.

3. Import WBT content into LearnCenter- You import the content into your LearnCenter, creating a link or a pointer for the content inside LearnCenter. At this point, the content is in the "warehouse" and Users cannot yet see the content.
4. Insert WBT content into LearnCenter - Once tested, you insert the content into LearnCenter in order for Users to see it.
5. Distribute WBT to Users - Select one or more containers to distribute the content to Users. Containers include Enrollments, Assignments, and links to the content on LearnCenter pages.

Setup Considerations

If you are implementing WBT in your LearnCenter for the first time, you will need to decide the following:

• Whether Users can complete WBT content more than once (Multiple Attempts). By default, Users can only complete a WBT once. However, you have the option to enable your Users to complete WBT content more than once. For example, perhaps you intend to use WBT for annual mandatory training, so you want Users to complete a WBT Course every year. If you want Users to be able to complete WBT content more than once, then you will need to enable a setting to allow Multiple Attempts.
• Whether WBT content will be shared with sub LearnCenters. When you import WBT content into a LearnCenter, you can choose whether the WBT Course or Class can be made available to sub LearnCenters or if it should only be available in the current LearnCenter. You will need to decide which WBT Courses or Classes need to be made available to any sub LearnCenters. This decision will impact whether the import setting “Import [Course or Class] Into Public Catalog’ is selected during the import process.
• Whether Administrators will have User Permissions to manually mark WBT content as complete.LearnCenter provides the ability for Administrators to manually mark a User as having completed a WBT. You will need to decide whether your LearnCenter Administrators will need the User Permissions to manually mark WBT content complete for Users.

Required Knowledge

In addition to the decisions above, the following knowledge is required to effectively use WBT in your LearnCenter:

• Whether your WBT content is SCORM or AICC. LearnCentersupports SCORM and AICC content. You will need to know the format of each WBT Course or Class.
• What version of SCORM your SCORM content is - SCORM 1.2 or SCORM 2004.
• Whether your SCORM content is published as a single SCO Course or a multi-SCO Class. SCORM content can be published in two ways: as a single SCO Course or a multi-SCO Class. If you have SCORM content, you will need to know whether it is published as a Class or a Course because there are different distribution options or "containers" available for each.
• Who in your organization will be responsible for creating, uploading, and managing WBT content. This may be one person or multiple people depending on your organization.
• Your organization’s LearnCenter FTP site login credentials. Implementing WBT content in your LearnCenter involves uploading the WBT content files to your LearnCenter’s FTP site using FTP software. Taleo Learn Support sent an email to the primary contact for your organization’s FTP site URL and login credentials.
• Your organization’s policies and guidelines. There are several WBT content settings in the LearnCenter that influence how the content is viewed and tracked. Your organization’s policies, guidelines , or business needs will guide you with implementing these settings. In addition, you will need to determine how WBT content will be managed, such as how often it will be reviewed and updated, and how to handle retiring content. Specifically, you will need to know your organization's polices on:

• Source control
• Course settings
• Managing WBT (updating, removing, etc.)

Definitions of WBT-related vocabulary.

Term	Definition
WBT (Web-based Training)	Self-paced or asynchronous content. Includes, but is not limited to SCORM, AICC, and LearnCenter Course Editor content.
SCORM	Shareable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM). eLearning standards & specifications that allow you to use different vendors’ tools to create and distribute WBT content with consistent results.
Class	A publishing format for SCORM Content. A SCORM Class is made of SCORM content objects (SCOs).
SCO	A publishing format for SCORM Content. Shareable Content Object which can be a chapter, lesson, topic of a Class, or an agenda item.
Course	AICC content, content created in LearnCenter’s Course Editor, and single SCOs.
IMSManifest.xml	A file that's part of all SCORM content. It contains all of the SCORM identifiers and data needed to track a User's activity, and to capture the score data to report to LearnCenter. It also contains required information for communication between the content and the LMS.
AICC	Aviation Industry CBT Committee (AICC). eLearning standards developed by an international association of technology-based training professionals for the aviation industry in the development, delivery, and evaluation of CBT materials.
FTP	File Transfer Protocol. Rules that allow files to be transferred from a computer to the file server using special FTP software.
FTP Site (LearnCenter)	You were given a designated FTP site to store WBT content and other files for their LearnCenter. Uploading WBT content files to your organization’s FTP site is a required step for importing WBT content. Contact Customer Support through My Oracle Support if you need assistance locating or using your FTP site.
FTP Software	Software that uses the FTP rules to transfer files from a computer to your LearnCenter’s FTP site.
Importing WBT Content	Process of bringing WBT content into your LearnCenter. Importing content creates a pointer in LearnCenter to the content files on the FTP site.
Inserting WBT Content	Once content has been imported into the LearnCenter(including Learn.com libraries), it must be inserted into the LearnCenter before Users can access it.
“Warehouse” (Inactive WBT)	An unofficial LearnCenter term for where WBT content is imported initially. Imported content is not immediately available to Users. It is stored in the ‘warehouse’ until an Administrator brings the content into the ‘showroom’ by inserting it into the LearnCenter.
“Showroom” (Active WBT)	An unofficial LearnCenter term for location of content that has been inserted to the LearnCenter and can be made available to Users.

• Difference between Importing and Inserting WBT content.
• How SCORM Courses and Classes can be distributed to Users.
• Whether you plan to use Categories to organize and/or display WBT content to Users. If you plan to use Categories to organize LearnCenter items for Administrators, then you’ll need to know the Category schema or structure to ensure WBT are categorized correctly.

Relevant Third Party Tools

There are two sets of tools that are relevant to WBT content:

• Authoring tools to create WBT content - SCORM and AICC content can be created in numerous authoring or content development tools. Each authoring tool has its own set of features, but if the tool is SCORM-conformant and/or AICC-compliant then content created in the tool can be brought into the LearnCenter.
• FTP software tools to upload WBT content files to your LearnCenter’s FTP site.
