Viewing and Editing Course Properties

You can view and edit the Course properties on the Select Courses window. On the Control Panel:

1. Click   on the Content menu to expand it.
2. Click Courses.
3. Click Select Courses. The Select Courses page opens.
4. Use the filters to search for Courses.

   

   You can search for a particular Course or a range of Courses using several filters. The more filters you apply, the narrower the search results will be. Likewise, the fewer filters you apply, the broader the search results will be.

   If the Source Control feature is active for your LearnCenter, only current and published classes appear in the Select Courses window. See Checking Content Out of or Into the Learning Object Manager for additional information.

   1. Use the Course Titles Beginning With filter to search for a list of Courses beginning with a certain character based on a selected letter or number.

   • Click a letter to search for Courses beginning with that letter.
   • Click a number to search for Courses beginning with that number.
   • Click Show All to display a list of all Courses.

   2. Use the Courses Added check boxes to search for Courses by how they were brought into LearnCenter.

   • Select Any course type to search for Courses added to LearnCenter by any method (SCORM Importer, AICC importer, etc).
   • Select Courses added with the AICC Importer to search for Courses imported using the AICC importer.
   • Select Courses added with the SCORM Importer to search for Courses imported using the SCORM importer. This option only displays available SCOs.
   • Select Courses added within the LearnCenter - This option shows all Courses created in the LearnCenter using the WYSIWYG Course Editor.
   • SelectCourses added with the Content Manager to search for Courses created with Content Manager. In the search results, the Courses created with the Content Manager display as "MEDIA" in the Type column. Note: Content Manager Courses are available for selection wherever you can add a Course, but they only work within the LearnCenter Course Player accessible via Widgets or SSO Deep Linking.

   3. Use the Courses Location fields to indicate where the Courses might reside.

   • The first check box has two options in its drop-down list: Are in the Public Catalog displays Courses that are included in the public catalog; Are NOT in the Public Catalog displays Courses that are not in the public catalog. Select this check box then choose an option from the drop-down list, or clear the check box if you do not want to filter by this method.
   • The second check box has two options in its drop-down list: Were written in this LearnCenter displays Courses that were created in the current LearnCenter; Were NOT written in this LearnCenter displays Courses that were not created in the current LearnCenter. Select this check box then choose an option from the drop-down list, or clear the check box if you do not want to filter by this method.
   • The third check box has two options in its drop-down list: Were written by you displays Courses that were authored or imported by the current User; Were NOT written by you displays Courses that were authored or imported by someone other than the current User. Select this check box then choose an option from the drop-down list, or clear the check box if you do not want to filter by this method.
   • The fourth check box has three options: Top-Level only displays root-level Courses when a Class has a multiple-level structure; All SCORM Classes displays just Classes; Individual SCOs displays just individual SCOs. Select this check box then choose an option from the drop-down list, or clear the check box if you do not want to filter by this method.

   4. Click one of the following for Course Titles to search by text strings:

   • Containing - This option filters courses based on the specified text string of letters and numbers occurring anywhere within the Course titles. For example, entering the criteria “exc” would return a course titled “Microsoft Excel 2007."
   • Beginning with - This option filters courses based on the specified text string of letters and numbers occurring only at the beginning of the Course titles. For example, entering the criteria “micro” would return a course titled “Microsoft Excel 2007."

   5. Use the drop-down lists under Courses in this Skill/Category to search for Courses by associated Skill or Category.

   • Skills - This option filters Courses that have been associated with a particular Skill. Use the drop-down list to select a Skill previously created in the LearnCenter.
   • Categories - This option filters Courses that have been associated with a particular Category. Use the drop-down list to select a Category previously created in the LearnCenter.

   6. Specify the number of Display records per page. Use the drop-down list to choose 10, 25, 50,100 or 250 records.
   7. Click Search.

   8. Scroll down if necessary to see the search results. If you need to start over with a new search, click Reset to return the fields to their default values.

5. Rest your pointer on a Course, and then click . The Class Properties or Course Properties page opens, depending on the type of class you selected.
6. Make any necessary changes. The fields available vary depending on whether you are looking at Course or Class Properties. Refer to AICC Course Importer and Importing SCORM Content to Your LearnCenter respectively for specific information about some of the fields on this page.

The Title, Description, and Date Created information cannot be modified. If applicable, a note below this information tells you how the Course was imported into the LearnCenter.

7. If you have opened a Document Course (a Course created with the Content Manager), indicate the Completion Criteria for the Course. Select either of the following to indicate which action will drive Users toward completion:

• Launch Document Course – Users only need to launch the Course in order to complete it.
• View all Document Pages – Simply launching the Course will not drive it to completion. Users need to view all pages of the Course before it completes.
• Optionally, you can set a Minimum Time in Course for either option. This means that the completion is not just tied into launching the Course, but also to Users spending the appropriate amount of time consuming the Course material.

8. Click the Allow Reviews check box if you want to enable Users to submit reviews for this Course.
   
   or
   
   Clear the check box if you do not want to enable Users to submit reviews for the Course.

The Allow Reviews check box only displays if the Ratings and Reviews feature is active for this LearnCenter. See Ratings and Reviews for information about this feature.

If your LearnCenter has the WBT expiration features enabled, the Expiration Options section displays so you can override the attempt and completion expiration defaults for this Course.

9. Select the Expire Attempts check box if you want to Override LearnCenter Default. The Expiration Options section expands.

The Expiration Options section does not display if the Multiple Attempts feature is not enabled.

10. Select the type of expiration for attempts you want to apply to this event:

• Never - click this option to have the attempt records of this event never expire.
• On - click this option to have the attempt records of this event expire on a specific date in a specific year, or on a specific date every year. In the first drop-down list select the month. In the second drop-down list select the date. Type a four-digit year in the text box for the expiration to occur in a specific year, or leave this box blank to have it recur on the specified date every year.
• After - click this option to have the attempt records of this event expire the specified number of Days, Months, or Years after the User's attempt date. Select Days, Months, or Years from the drop-down list and type a number from 1 to 365 in the text box. Select the Expire Completions check box if you want to Override LearnCenter Default. The Expiration Options section expands.

11. Select the type of expiration for completions you want to apply to this event:

• Never - click this option to have the completion records of this event never expire.
• On - click this option to have the completion records of this event expire on a specific date in a specific year, or on a specific date every year. In the first drop-down list select the month. In the second drop-down list select the date. Type a four-digit year in the text box for the expiration to occur in a specific year, or leave this box blank to have the expiration recur on the specified date every year.
• After - click this option to have the completion records of this event expire the specified number of Days, Months, or Years after the User's completion date. Select Days, Months, or Years from the drop-down list and type a number from 1 to 365 in the text box.

12. Select one of the following for Show Navigation Bar:

• Inherited - uses the value from the parent LearnCenter.
• Yes - to show the LearnCenter Course Player navigation bar for all Courses launched using the LearnCenter Course Player.
• No - to hide the LearnCenter Course Player navigation bar for all Courses launched using the LearnCenter Course Player.

13. Select one of the following for Show Navigation Buttons:

• Inherited - uses the value from the parent LearnCenter.
• Yes - to show the LearnCenter Course Player navigation buttons for all Courses launched using the LearnCenter Course Player.
• No - to hide the LearnCenter Course Player navigation buttons for all Courses launched using the LearnCenter Course Player.

14. Select one of the following for Allow Document Download:

• Inherited - uses the value from the parent LearnCenter. The default setting for this field is No in the root LearnCenter, and Inherited for all sub LearnCenters and Course Properties pages. You can decide when to change this value to Yes and make this setting available for any LearnCenter or Course. This setting is available at both the LearnCenter and individual Course level.
• Yes - to allow Users to download the Course document. The ability to download source content is tied to the completion settings for the Course. For example, you may be required to view all Course pages before it is considered complete. Once the completion criteria for a Course is met, a new download icon displays on the page. See Viewing and Editing Course Properties for details.
• No - to prevent Users from downloading the Course document.

15. Select one of the following for Default Launch Mode:

• Inherited - the launch mode setting is inherited from the parent LearnCenter.
• Embed - the Course is embedded on the page.
• New Window or Tab - The Course opens in a new window or tab.

This setting sets the default launch mode for LearnCenter Courses, Document Courses, and SCORM 1.2 Courses played on the LearnCenter Course Player. It does not affect the classic Course Player.

16. Click Submit to keep the changes you made, or click View Class Properties to cancel your changes and return to the read-only Class Properties window.
17. Click View Class Details.

18. Click the Close Window button to return to the Class Properties page.
